Light switch no ground terminal. I am replacing all the light switches in my home which are leviton toggle switches with leviton illuminated decora switches 5611 w and 5613 w my current toggle switches all have a grounding terminal and screw that are wired to the bare copper ground conductor coming out of the romex which makes sense since the electrical boxes are all plastic. Just ignore the l2 terminal. Consider wiring the light yourself to save money on an electrician and gain experience in electrical repairs for your home. Wrap the wire around the screw then cinch the nut down to hold it.
Remove one of the long screws that holds the fixture in place. Light fixtures and the ground wire electrical wiring in some older homes does not have a ground wire for outlets ans switches and some older homes have ground wires that are bonded behind the electrical box. But check will all local building codes because it may require a rewiring of your home to bring it up to date. In many cases especially in older houses with metal boxes the metal box may be grounded even if you don t have a ground wire.
A two way switch for switching a light from two different locations like in a hallway has a common c a l1 and an l2 terminal. Thread an 8 32 nut onto the screw. Installing light fixtures that have no ground wire is something that can be done by yourself. You can use a two way switch for one way switching.
Ground wires are typically attached to a ground screw or screw terminal connection on either the light fixture receptacle outlet or electrical devices or components including the electrical junction box or ground lead wire from light fixtures and other the electrical devices which provide a connection for the ground wire.
